I made myself something!

I don't know about you guys but I very rarely make myself anything.  Well the challenge at JDE is the color challenge to use red, blue and purple.  Also we are being sponsored this week by A Day for Daisies digi stamps.  I just love this image called Growing in a Snowglobe.  I decided to make something to hang on my office door, the finished size is 8 x 10.
The black and blue paper bases were cut from a banner file which was a free weekly set from Designs on Cloud 9.  The Scalloped border is a Spellbinders die with the Jolee's Hotfix crystals.  The ribbon is stiff and sparkly and was very easy to stamp on.  The letters are from a CTMH set called Chocolate Alphabet small.
I used Copics E00 and E000 for her skin and Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol for everything else, Stickles on her wings and center of flowers, I used PearlEx #673 interference violet inside the snowglobe (doesn't show in pictures though!)

Ok so here is my "goof".  I was almost done and below is the original border with the additional die used to cut the hearts and dots which was fine until I decided to to fill them with Stickles.  I was so not happy with the result and mad at myself for "ruining" and almost finished project.  I'm sure you've been there LOL!  Anyway I decided to cover it with another scalloped piece and added the Jolee's crystals.  I am much happier with the final result!  Whew!

Baby girl caddy

My cousin just had a beautiful baby girl named Emily!  We are so happy for them!  She is crafty as well so I knew she would appreciate the gift I made for her  :)  Anyone who has poked around my blog will know that I had gotten some caddy's at a recycling place and I love to alter them, there are a few examples and before & after pics HERE and HERE.

This cute little bear is an SVG from Designs on Cloud 9  I ran it through the Cuttlebug with the dot folder.

I made the banner with a Close To My Heart stamp set called Pennant Alphabet.

Finished with cellophane which I think was a bit sloppy because my 2 year old came in just as I was trying to wrap it and was getting into all of my Spellbinder dies!  So needless to say I rushed to finish it  LOL!  It could have been worse :)  At any rate it stayed together and she really liked it and that's what matters!

Yankees magnet and acrylic block tip!

I made a magnet for my husbands locker at work.  Mind you he works in Massachusetts...you know...Red Sox Nation!  Needless to say he's outnumbered there but he loves to torture them!  LOL!!  This is an old stamp set from Autumn Leaves and the ROCKS are letters from another license plate set and don't remember who made it!  I'm bad but it's old too!

Here is the back, I added some chipboard for support.  Stamp by Verve.

Ok so here's my tip.  I was looking for my really large acrylic block and can't find it...I rarely use it.  I was going bonkers looking when it finally hit me...I could use the embossing plate from my Cuttlebug!!  Duh!  Well it worked great!  And definitely large enough.  So don't waste $ on a large block just find something else to use  :)

I am entering this in Tammy's Scrapin Corners challenge this week which is #14 For the Boys.  And linking to The Sunday Showcase Party #106 and Made By You Monday.

JDE Inks and Such Challenge

It's time for another Jackson's Digital Expressions Challenge!  As usual it's Anything Goes and I'm featuring one of the new releases Just Purses II.  I tried something different today,  I colored my image in with Copics (pink RV63 and Cool Gray No. 5 on the handle) and Pearl Ex on the bag and the light purple flower under the paper flower.  I used silver, interference violet, duo red-blue and flamingo pink.  Unfortunately, the shimmer does not show up in any photo!  You'll have to trust me when I say it's a very pretty effect!  LOL!  Papers by Coredinations - Gemstones and stamp by Verve.

Graduation Candy Poem

Hi all,

I'm trying to get ready for my daughter's graduation from high school tomorrow!  Really really having a hard time with it!  (sniff...sniff)  so I'm doing some therapy ;)  I made these for my daughter and some of her friends.  I found the poem HERE but tweaked it a little. I created the 2012 file in MTC, banner is an SVG  from Designs on Cloud 9, tag is a Spellbinders die and the little pails were from Target's dollar bins.  I like them they're so cute  :)

Lighthouse Birthday

Here's a birthday card I made for my sister-in-law who loves lighthouses. This is an image from www.doodlepantry.com that comes pre-colored or plain digi image, also comes with two coordinating digi papers.  I chose to color mine with Prismacolor pencils...I know shocking!  LOL!  And I haven't used mulberry paper in years!  I'm entering this in their challenge this month.

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone is having a relaxing and safe holiday!  Today we took my son, Niko, who's 2 1/2 to the RI Veteran's Cemetery to visit my grandfather's grave. My grandfather served in the Navy in WWII and his ship was attacked and sunk.  He was injured but saved one of his fellow sailors by swimming him to shore.  He never received his Purple Heart but he was always our Hero with a heart of gold  :)  Here are some pictures of Niko enjoying all of the flags.

Enjoy the rest of your day and if your out stay safe and wear your seat belts!
Hugs,
Kathi

Jackson's Digital Expressions Challenge and some tips!

This week it's my turn to host the new Inks and Such challenge at JDE!  Inks and Such is a challenge where you can showcase your coloring talents.  And soon we will have tutorials and tip and techniques to share with you.  This week I challenged the DT to make a card that was not the typical A4 size.  I made two this week.
This is a new release called Moma's Suga.  I used Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol.  Colors used: 942,940,914,941,946,945,927,1093,1065,906,1086,929,1014.  I inked the edges of the scalloped oval with a pigment ink then went over it with the nub and Gamsol and it actually smoothed it out nicely!

Here is a gift card holder made using the Just Shoes XI image.  Colored with Prismacolors 932,956,1008,935.  The card holder base is made by folding the Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities Grand Labels Eleven die cut in half.  I used a Cuttlebug folder to emboss once folded in half.  Don't you wish they would either name or # their folders so I could tell you exactly which one was used?  Anyway, scalloped circle and center circle both Spellbinders.  Hard to tell but there are dots of Stickles around the scallops.

Here's a visual for the die except your score line will be down the center.

Here's a tip for making the pennant if you don't have a die or SVG:

Place the end of the paper diagonal in a square punch, see the top left corner, that will be the inside of your pennant "tail".

So that's it!  Come check out the amazing talent of the other DT members at JDE and join us for this new challenge!

Save the Earth Cricut Crawl

Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog is having their version of a blog hop.  The challenge is to use a recycled item and a cut from a Cricut cartridge.  I used the crayon from the Locker Talk cartridge and I used a frosting container....yum....  The star paper is an older one by Imaginisce called Let's Pretend.

I love recycling in my crafts and I had several of these frosting containers just waiting to be used...and no I didn't eat the frosting just for this challenge!  Not that I wouldn't if I had to though!  LOL!!

Card + soda bottle gift

Here's one of my quickie cards.  The card base (plaid and already scalloped) was a blank note card from Target I think.  PTI stamps used:  Birthdays by the Numbers and Big Birthday Wishes.

And here's a quick way to package gifts.  This took me about 10-15 minutes to put together.

Supplies needed:  2 liter soda bottle
                            exacto knife
sticker paper or paper and double sided tape
filler like shredded paper or tissue
                            ribbon or bow

And because I was in a hurry the sticker paper wrinkled at the bottom...grrr...LOL
Step #1     Cut a "door" in the side of the bottle with the exacto knife.  So you will be cutting 3 sides,
do not cut a complete hole in the bottle.

Step #2    Put some filler in the bottle then add items and more filler so the items are snug and don't shift.

Step #3   Print your saying on the sticker paper or regular paper and cut it so it is larger than your opening
in the bottle.  This is how you will hide your "door".

Step #4   Close the opening and place the paper over it to seal the items inside.

Step #5  Decorate with ribbon on the top and that's it!

Just be careful when putting your items in because the edges can be sharp!!  Advise your recipient to do the same!  If I had time I would have decorated the sticker paper more but considering it was a last minute gift and card it was ok.  And my daughter's friend liked it so that's all that mattered  :)  Little kids love these!  I actually used to mail the smaller soda bottles but that was years ago.  I would be too afraid to do that now...things tend to get "lost" too often now  :)

Have fun!

Jackson's Digital Expressions CAS Challenge

Here is my card for the CAS Challenge this week at Jackson's Digital Expressions Blog.

I just love this image titled Growing Old Together.  Here is the original image:
I cropped the image very close.  Now I feel like the image represents my husband and I...a younger version of the original image!  You can't tell that they are an older couple.  Maybe in 20 years I'll remake the card to resemble us then  :)

I used my new favorite technique.  The same as the last project...Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol with the blending stumps.  I love the papers they are from a DCWV pad called Cotton Bloom Stack.  There are 48 pages and 1/2 of them are glittered and I only paid $5.99 for it!  Guess where I bought it?  Believe it or not TJ Maxx!!  In their home goods section they have some crafting supplies!  I've also found supplies at their sister store Marshall's.  The sentiment is from Verve and it's hard to tell but I stippled the oval with a teal and then light gray ink.  So come check out the other Design Team members creations and join us for this week's CAS Challenge HERE!

Thanks for stopping by!   Kathi
